Milken Institute School of Public Health Food Leadership Minor Structure
At the Milken Institute School of Public Health at the George Washington University, there are 4 majors (Public Health, Nutrition, Exercise Science, Health Data Science) and 4 minors (Public Health, Nutrition, Exercise Science, and Bioinformatics).
The following criteria applies to all students who have a major and/or minor in this school. Use this criteria if you are considering courses in the Food Leadership Minor offered through the Global Food Institute.
- Across the Policy, Innovation, and Humanity pillars, students cannot double count any courses toward their degree requirements at Milken. Distinct courses from their degree of study (core courses, concentration courses, and guided electives) will need to be selected by students wishing to declare the Food Leadership Minor alongside any of our academic programs. This is consistent with their policy across all other degree programs.
- For example, EXNS 2122 is required for our Nutrition major in the applied nutrition concentration. A student wishing to minor in Food Leadership would need to select a distinct course other than EXNS2122 in the Innovation Pillar to fulfill the Food leadership minor.
- There is one exception to double counting: In the Nutrition Pillar, many of the degree programs already require EXNS 2119: Intro to Nutrition Science. Since courses in this pillar are intended to provide a degree of foundation in nutrition, EXNS 2119 will double count toward our degree requirements and the Food Leadership minor. This is the only course that will be double counted.
- To declare the minor, students will use a form provided by the Global Food Institute (not Milken), and will submit it to GFI's office for processing.
- This is how all other majors and minors outside of Milken are processed for our students (e.g., Columbian College of Arts & Sciences (CCAS) processes all forms for Chemistry minors).
