Taryn Devereux is an adjunct faculty member at GW’s Global Food Institute. She’s a food systems expert who recently co-launched Food Atlas Studio and has over 12 years of experience leading international research, programming, and education initiatives focused on food security, climate, agriculture, extension, and the environment. 

Previously, Taryn was the Technical Program Manager for the Africa portfolio with NASA Harvest, as part of the University of Maryland (UMD) Department of Geographical Sciences. For many years, she was also Faculty with the UMD College of Agriculture and Natural Resources, with appointments in US-Extension, as well as the Department of Agricultural and Resource Economics, where she led a Global Classroom on Global Agriculture. She has chaired multiple professional committees with organizations such as AIAEE and AIARD, and is passionate about connecting science to the public. 

In her GFI adjunct faculty role, Taryn teaches courses including “Introduction to Food Studies,” “The Food Leadership Capstone,” and “Global Agriculture, Climate Change, and Gender.” These courses skillfully blend theoretical insights with practical challenges to engage students with real-world issues.

Taryn holds a Master of Sustainable Development Practice, with a focus on tropical agriculture and conservation, and a Bachelor of Arts degree, both from the University of Florida.
